The Aussie's popularity boomed with Western culture and horse-riding after WWII and was often featured in rodeos, horse shows, movies, and TV. The Australian Shepherd, also known as the Aussie, is a breed of herding dog from the United States. The name of the breed is technically a misnomer, as it was developed in California in the 19th century. When you first get your Aussie puppy, they’re energetic and playful like with any other puppy.

The Australian shepherd dog, or Aussie, is a medium-sized herding dog with medium-length fur and an agile, athletic build. The breed's ancestors came to the U.S. from Europe by way of Australia, hence the name. Contrary to the name, Australian shepherds—affectionately called Aussies—were bred as herding and working dogs on the American Frontier.
