The vet ACCIDENTALLY gave our kitty a Convenia shot. She was supposed to get Serenia, an anti-nausea medication and was given Convenia instead. I was already nervous about giving her a shot and specifically asked the vet if it was long-acting because my kitty's sister (who has since passed) had a very bad reaction to Convenia.

Understanding the Context

There is a craze to give Convenia for everything, sort of like what is happening with sedation now for things it should not be used for and was not needed for. I have talked to numerous people whose cats and dogs died after convenia and they have to live with that pain forever because they weren't consulted and or warned about the side effects. Convenia: A Long Acting Antibiotic's Dark Side | Walkerville Vet Convenia® is the most widely used antibiotic in Australian cats. Yet despite it having major problems no owner has ever questioned my decision to use it.

Key Insights

Hopefully after this you will. After all, part of the reason vets use it so much is because we think you want us to.… My late cat Harry was given an injection of Convenia. After he got the injection he got worse. He ended up with 104.5 temp that was medically reduced. I have seen postings on the Internet on adverse reactions to this overly prescribed antibiotic by vets.

Final Thoughts

Just wondering if anyone else noticed an... *Kidney failure was one of the many severe possible convenia reactions people's cats had initially when it came out so it can be a reaction, and it's irrelevant if she had some form of kidney disease already. There is a caution about giving it to cats/dogs with kidney disease as well due to how long it stays in the system. My 3 year old male cat, Oliver, got a Convenia injection , and sure enough he's got the Convenia "funk" of lethargy and low appetite. I'd like to hear from others who've had this happen with their kitties, and I'm wondering how long this might go on, in general? I'm aware that it...

Thank you for your posts and articles relating to Convenia! My vet has been administering Convenia to 2 of my cats periodically for a couple years. One has been diagnosed with eosinophilic granuloma (inoperable, on the tongue) which was confirmed by biopsy. The second is semi-feral and has...
