After being born, kittens display primary altriciality and are fully dependent on their mothers for survival. They normally do not open their eyes for seven to ten days. After about two weeks, kittens develop quickly and begin to explore the world beyond their nest.
Understanding the Context
Ideally, kitten rooms should be kept around 85 F or 29 C but that it isn’t always practical. A kitten over 6 weeks of age only needs the availability of a warm, cozy spot. Since kittens under four weeks of age do not have the ability to thermoregulate, we must help them maintain body warmth.
